The Animal Industries Resource Centre is proud to have on board Veterinarians and Veterinary Nurses who have excelled in the veterinary profession and are committed to passing on their wealth of experience and knowledge. Many of the staff fulfil the roles of assessors, tutors, workshop co-ordinators, career advisors, job counsellors and professional colleagues. We have staff that excel in the departments of Accounting and Administration and all our staff will help you in your quest to further your skills and knowledge.
Mark Hardwick - General Manager

Like Sue, many of you would be familiar with Mark. Having spent the last 15 years in the training and communication field, Mark has motivated and inspired young people to achieve personal and professional goals. He has previously facilitated a national youth unemployment group called ‘Breaking The Cycle’, and has spent time concentrating on improving the communication skills with both adults and children alike.
Mark has been applying these skills and supporting the veterinary industry for the past 7 years. His primary role at the Animal Industries Resource Centre is to consult with and train veterinary nurses, veterinarians, practice managers and industry bodies, helping them achieve excellence in communication and professional practice. This process assists them in reaching their goals in the workplace – a concept Mark is committed to.
Sue Crampton - Strategic Development Training and Lead Consultant
Sue graduated in the UK as a veterinary nurse in 1982. After working in the USA and Hong Kong Sue settled in Australia. After working in a variety of mixed practices she formed the Australian Veterinary Nurse Resource Centre with her partner Mark Hardwick. Sue has a business degree and now focuses her time on working as the HR Manager for Provet Group of Companies.
Tania Small - Operations and International Affairs Manager

Tania's job role encompasses many areas including human resource management of AIRC staff, internal and external training on a range of topics, overseas portfolio management and client relations, business development, Company Business Plans and budgets.
Tania has worked for AIRC full time and as a contractor for the last seven years. In total, Tania has worked in the animal care field for the last 15 years predominantly as a Veterinary Nurse (general practice and emergency) and also included shorter work stints in Animal Management, welfare and behavioural training. As often as possible, Tania still works in small animal practice in order to maintain her nursing skills.
Being passionate about not only the animal care industry, but also the people working in it, Tania is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology through the University of Southern Queensland. Stress management and organisational psychology being her primary interests in this field. Her own form of stress management and primary hobby is art, in particular oil painting.
Tania is presently living and working in Hong Kong developing CCG consulting services there.
Relena Kloos – Administration Manager
Relena is the AIRC’s Admin Manager and one of the company’s longest serving employees. With a strong background in admin and client management, Relena is responsible for all the administration and government liaison duties on behalf of the AIRC. She provides training to all new staff as well as taking care of the day-to-day office duties that arise with the Director’s consulting work - from organising travel arrangements to preparing company audit reports. Relena successfully manages the Key Account Clients and also prepares and produces company policies and procedures.
Relena is presently on maternity leave.
Rosie Overfield –Project Manager for Sales and Marketing
Rosie’s role challenges her to manage areas such as industry liaison, business development and project management. Rosie is also a qualified veterinary nurse with previous training and experience in journalism, communication and retail. Passionate about customer service, communication and career development for veterinary nurses, Rosie is equally committed to the welfare of many animal species both locally and overseas and maintains her nursing skills through various volunteer programs.
Janine Temple - Commercial Manager
Janine’s 2 year absence from AIRC has seen her gain extensive experience working in the training division of Australia’s largest building and construction industry, managing 30 staff and gaining a diverse and broader insight to building business success.
As Commercial Manager for AIRC, Janine’s primary role includes human resource management, business consulting and providing strategic planning and business advice in respect to new business opportunities and improved strategies. Janine understands the needs of business from both ends of the spectrum. Her customer service philosophy is simple... less about us - more about you!
She is also a qualified veterinary nurse with a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (Management). She is passionate about motivating and inspiring people to achieve their personal and professional goals and has been in the veterinary industry since 1991.
With only 3 subjects to go Janine has nearly completed her Bachelor of Business majoring in Marketing and Human Resources.
Natalie Zofek – Workshops and Events Coordinator
As one of AIRC’s Customer Service Officers and assistant to the Events Coordinator, Natalie brings to the company a wealth of administrative and customer focused skills. She is behind the delivery of the “Practice with Confidence” Workshop Series. This role sees her amongst other responsibilities booking venues, taking registrations and sending logistics.
Previously she has been employed as an Administrator with a mortgage company in the UK as well as within the retail sector. With a Certificate III in Business Administration, Natalie excels in managing the day to day administrative operations at the AIRC.
Tracy Woodland - Enrolments and Internal Training Supervisor

As an AIRC Enrolments Officer, Tracy is responsible for all aspects of the enrolment and traineeship process for every course. On any given day she may be liaising with Government departments, performing student interviews or consulting with Course Coordinators about student matters. Tracy’s greatest thrill is seeing prevocational students succeed and go on to paid employment and re-enrol in formal accredited training as working nurses.
Two teenage children keep Tracy busy but in her spare time she enjoys golfing with her husband Jeff, beach volleyball, socialising and cheering her kids on at their sporting endeavours.
Lauren Palmer – Enrolments Officer and AQTF Coordinator
Lauren works closely with Tracy to ensure enrolments are processed efficiently. This is a task that increases month by month due to growing student numbers. She comes from a strong background in retail training and management.
Lauren also keeps busy managing her Arabian Horse Stud.
Erin Croker - Consulting and Events Supervisor

Erin’s role is extremely diverse and sees her performing a large variety of administrative duties. These tasks range from organising logistics for the consulting team, and coordinating staff travel, to overseeing the ‘Practice with Confidence’ workshop series throughout Australia. She liases directly with clients, workshop speakers, logistic coordinators, company sponsors and service providers to ensure a high level of service is offered. Erin has been working in office administration since 2001, and enjoys the challenge that this role provides her.
Erin enjoys spending time with her loved ones, taking in the arts, photography, reading classic novels and walking her Border Collie, Riley.
Kate Rasmussen –Training Co-ordinator (veterinary nursing)
Kate is a co-ordinator for the veterinary nursing school and works closely with Deborah and Kylie to help nurses reach their full potential. Kate comes to the AIRC with 6 years experience in the industry in both general practice and emergency nursing. She still maintains her skills by working at an emergency centre on the weekends.
Kate’s menagerie of animals fills her spare time. She has a dog, Tess, a cat, Gizmo, and three horses. Weekends when Kate is not working are filled competing with her horses in showjumping and dressage.
Kylie Hawkins – Training Co-ordinator (veterinary nursing)
Kylie is the co-ordinator and first point of contact for Certificate II students. She has had a varied career as a kennel hand, zoo keeper, practice manager and industry representative as well as an 18 year career as a veterinary nurse. Kylie gained her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing in 2002 and is the first australian veterinary nurse to achieve accreditation from AVA/VNCA in recognition of competence, currency and dedication to the veterinary nursing profession.
Kylie is an active member of the Qld SES and long-standing committee member of the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia (Qld division).
Her main interests are in behaviour and practice management. She has a dog, Charleegirl, a cat, Little One, and two cockateils.
Carole Harvey-Stevenson - Special Projects

Carole has worked with the AIRC since 2001 as the resident technical advisor. Carole’s primary role is presenting workshops and lecturing on a variety of in-depth nursing topics throughout Australia and oversees.
Carole has her UK nursing qualification as well as an Australian Diploma in Emergency and Critical Care. Her greatest achievement was receiving the Veterinary Technician qualification from the United States. She is one of only a few to hold this in Australia.
Carole still remains hands-on in the industry working full-time at a Brisbane specialist and emergency centre.
Jenny Cutler - Training Co-ordinator (Prevocational)

Jenny is the prevocational student liaison officer and coordinates all introductory courses and Certificate I students. She ensures that all prevocational students are taken care of and successfully manages administrative routines such as course note production, marking of submissions and assisting students in their enquiries.
Jenny has extensive experience in native wildlife and exotics – she is a qualified zookeeper! Jenny has a special interest in the zoo industry and anything horsey. She also has a horse – Moshahn.
Erika Gladman - Training Co-ordinator (Companion Animal Services School)
Erika graduated from the University of Sydney as a Veterinary Surgeon in 1997. She has spent almost 10 years in small animal practice in Sydney, Brisbane and the UK. Whilst working in a Training Practice the UK, Erika became an assessor for trainee Veterinary Nurses studying through the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Erika joined the AIRC in January 2007 as the Student Liaison Officer for the Companion Animal Services School. Erika has a special interest in our feline friends and shares her home with two furry specimens called Gin and Tonic! In her spare time Erika and her husband Rohan enjoy the beach, traveling, going to the gym (occasionally!) and feasting on good food and wine!
Chantal McKinlay - Training Co-ordinator (Companion Animal Services School)
Chantal comes to the AIRC with over ten years experience in small animal nursing. During that time she has achieved her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing as well as her veterinary technician certificate.
Her main interests are in guinea pig care and small animal medicine. She maintains her skills working on weekends at a small animal surgery.
In her spare time Chantal enjoys belly dancing, spending time with her husband, Justin, and playing with her two dogs Khan (Shitzu) and Genevieve (Wire-haired Dachshund).
Jane Roberts – Student Co-ordinator and Personal Training Consultant, Queensland
Jane has worked for the AIRC over the pass few years lecturing on a casual basis. She has recently joined the team as a work place trainer and assessor and student coordinator to diploma and technician students. Jane hopes to pass on her knowledge and experience to new up coming nursing whilst following another path in her veterinary nursing career.
Jane has been in the veterinary industry for 14 years. She qualified as a veterinary nurse in the UK and came to Australia in September 1999 to further her career. Since arriving in Australia she has completed her Diploma in Surgical Nursing and has extensive experience in Emergency and Critical Care nursing. Other areas that interest Jane are animal nutrition - acquiring her Hills Nutritional Advisor level 3 and Hill’s Veterinary Health Advisor, orthopaedic surgery and anaethesiology.
Jane will still be keeping her nursing skills up to date by working in an Emergency Centre.
Alix Pollock – Personal Training Consultant, Queensland
Alix has been a veterinary nurse since 1993. She qualified under the RCVS in the UK in 1998. After travelling the UK and New Zealand with her husband, she emigrated to her husband's home town of Brisbane in 2003.
Alix has a keen interest in Avian/Exotics nursing and has worked as a nursing manager in a busy Brisbane clinic for the past two years. She still works part time for her husband in a busy northside clinic to keep up her skills.
In 2004, Alix became a Personal Training Consultant for the AIRC. Her mission is to infect trainee nurses with her enthusiasm to be the best they can be.
She splits her spare time between cooking, gardening, craft, comedy and teasing her two boofy cats, Junior and Dafydd. Alix is also a keen aquarium keeper with a six-foot freshwater tropical tank and a bucket load of fish.
Helen Power – Personal Training Consultant, New South Wales
Helen has been veterinary nursing since 1982 and gained first qualification in 1984. She has been continually employed in small animal practice and currently works in a small animal practice with owner/vet/husband on the mid north coast of NSW. Helen has worked for Crampton Consulting Group/ AIRC since 2001. Her main roles are as a Workplace Trainer & Assessor with responsibility for approximately 40 Veterinary Nurse students and presenter for CCG practice training. Helen is the current chair of NSW Industry Advisory Committee and chair of National Industry Advisory Group for Veterinary Nursing.
Great interests include red wine and good food. She has no current pets, although last dog lasted until 17 years of age. Helen enjoy travelling around Australia by small plane with her husband.
Michelle Storay – Personal Training Consultant, Victoria
Michelle qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1984 and has worked in a practices ranging from a busy small animal hospitals to specialist centres (dermatology). She has worked in a dedicated emergency and critical care facility for the last ten years where she is now responsible for the training of veterinary nurses there.
Michelle has been with the AIRC since 2001 as astudent trainer and workplace assessor. She also presents workshops both nationally and internationally.
Lena McMaster-Smith – Personal Training Consultant, Victoria
Lena is a qualified Certificate IV Veterinary Nurse as well Certificate III in Dental Assisting (human). She has worked in busy small animal practice and a specialist veterinary dental practice over the last six years.
Lena has a young family and a zoo of animals that keep her very busy.
Karen Gregory – Personal Training Consultant, Western Australia
Karen has been a qualified veterinary nurse for nearly 20 years and
has held a Certificate IV in Training and Assessing for four
years. She is currently completing a Certificate IV in Practice
Management through the University of New England. Working part-time
as an office manager and working with
AIRC students.
Karen lives in a fantastic wine region in South West WA with her young family
Mik O’Leary – Technical Development and Personal Training Consultant, Tasmania
Mik graduated from University of Queensland in 1980 and has been in small animal veterinary practice ever since. Most of his working career was spent at a major small animal hospital in Hobart though he has practiced in most states of Australia as well as a year working in the UK. He has a keen interest in surgery and particularly enjoys the challenges of orthopaedics.
After many years in full-time practice and part-time mentor to veterinary nurses, Mik crossed over to work as a full-time veterinary nurse trainer and part-time veterinarian, an arrangement he loves. He has undertaken additional study and research into online teaching and looks forward to the expanding possibilities there.
Mik loves to travel at any opportunity and is an avid photographer.
Desrae Gant – Queensland
Desrae has been a veterinary nurse since 1983, gaining her qualification in 1986. She has a passion for advancing veterinary nursing training to ensure clear and professional pathways in the industry. She still maintains her skill and passion by working as a Hospital Coordinator is a large Brisbane practice. Desrae has worked with the AIRC since 1998 as a trainer and assessor as well as regularly contributing to the creation and improvement of educational systems.
